Lunch & Learn: Domestic Abuse Awareness

During Domestic Abuse Awareness Month this October - 2025, Beautypreneurs launched its Lunch & Learn webinar series to support frontline service providers: including salon owners, hairdressers, beauticians, and wellness professionals; in strengthening safeguarding awareness across the industry.

The first session focused on domestic abuse, equipping professionals with the knowledge and confidence to recognise warning signs and respond appropriately when clients, colleagues, or they themselves may be at risk.

The webinar highlighted the unique position hair, beauty, barbering, and wellness professionals hold within their communities. Through regular client interaction and trusted relationships, salons and treatment spaces can often become safe environments where individuals feel comfortable disclosing personal struggles.

Attendees gained:

  • A deeper understanding of domestic abuse, including physical, emotional, financial, and sexual abuse

  • Practical guidance on creating safe, supportive conversations and environments

  • Knowledge of safeguarding pathways, support services, and referral resources

  • Greater confidence in their role as safeguarding allies within the industry

The session also raised awareness for professionals within the industry who may be experiencing domestic abuse themselves, while offering guidance on safeguarding employees, clients, and businesses.

The webinar was delivered in partnership with Hollie Gazzard Trust and Kesis Consulting. Jane Harvey shared expert insight on preventing domestic abuse and safeguarding against stalking. The Trust honours Hollie Gazzard, a much-loved hairdresser from Gloucester who tragically lost her life to domestic violence in her salon.

Joining Jane were Tina Pokuaah, founder of Kesis Consulting - who brought over 15 years of global safeguarding experience, and Michaela Anderson, founder of Beautypreneurs. Together, the speakers empowered frontline professionals with the tools and awareness needed to recognise, respond to, and help prevent domestic abuse within their communities.
